Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormone disorder characterized by the accumulation of what appears to be numerous fluid-filled cysts on the ovaries. Symptoms sometimes include amenorrhea (lack of a menstrual cycle), male-pattern facial hair growth, acne, skin tags, glucose dysregulation, and obesity. There are a few theories as to why PCOS occurs, but usually the goal of treatment is regulating insulin and blood sugar levels and normalizing testosterone and other sex hormones.
